Dog Diseases Preventable by Vaccination


Rabies
Rabies is a deadly virus that can be transmitted to humans. It attacks the brain and nerves.
Symptoms may include: extreme behavioral changes, fever, aggression, foaming at the mouth, disorientation, paralysis, and seizures.

Distemper
Distemper is also deadly in most cases. It is a virus that effects multiple organs and body systems.
Symptoms may include: sneezing, coughing, mucus from the eyes/nose, lethargy, fever, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Adenovirus
There are two types of Adenovirus. One type causes respiratory disease while the other can cause liver disease. 
Symptoms may include: lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain.

Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis is a bacteria that can be transmitted to humans. It is also a significant cause of liver and kidney failure. 
Symptoms may include: sore muscles, weakness, fever, increased thirst, yellow skin, difficulty breathing, and runny nose. 

Parvovirus
Parvovirus is an extremely deadly intestinal virus that is common in non-vaccinated dogs. When puppies contract the virus, it can damage the heart muscle and cause lifelong cardiac problems.
Symptoms may include: vomiting, lethargy, decreased appetite, and diarrhea.

Bordetella
Bordetella is a bacteria that can cause a highly contagious respiratory disease.
Symptoms may include: persistent dry cough, fever, and nasal discharge.

Lyme Disease
Lyme disease is a chronic and debilitating disease transmitted by ticks (primarily the deer tick).
Symptoms may include: depression, swollen lymph nodes, loss of appetite, fever, swollen or painful joints.
